How do you get a diverse team on the same page quickly, through visual design and rapid prototypes?
The Challenge
We joined this group to tackle an organizational issue: how do you get a diverse team on the same page quickly, through visual design and rapid prototypes? To answer this question, we called upon our expertise across design systems, attempting to find a match between problem and solution. We sought out a solution, and the associated backing, to create a sustainable structure for the group well into the future.
This system would not only serve the current staff, but be flexible enough to onboard new people quickly, while maintaining velocity on important organizational objectives. It would need to be nimble, scalable, and adaptable to changing circumstances.

Approach
DeveloperTown came into the engagement with an open mind, assessing the group's needs while maintaining flexibility on what would work once the engagement is over. This consideration of the end during the journey not only helped to frame problems and evaluate solutions, but kept the team focused on ownership of their design practice as it would grow.
One of the most important aspects of any system implementation for this group was time spent during the design process - managing a team of individual needs and skills at a rapid pace to ensure the products and services they were creating made it to market in a timely fashion. A single source of truth, that could be managed in different places, was critical to their success.

Solution
DeveloperTown successfully implemented a design system and practice approach, creating structures to allow for key design deliverables including visual user flows, functional prototypes, testable product iterations, design library & glossary.
These deliverables helped to lay the groundwork for the importance of design in all of the organization's efforts, streamlining connections and consolidating visual artifacts into a single source of truth. Additionally, this system cut down on the time to build page views and deploy prototypes, allowing more robust efforts to make their way to stakeholders quickly. Instead of lengthy coordination efforts and opaque design practices, the team now spends time refining beautiful design and forging a path into a brighter future.
